Nursery

Our Curriculum - The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)

EYFS stands for Early Years Foundation Stage and is the standard set for education, teaching, learning and care of 0 to 5-year-olds.

The EYFS not only sets out expected developmental milestones in the seven Areas of Learning and Development as well as developmental links, but also supports those working with EYFS age children in providing the correct support, provisions, and learning environment to best enable children to thrive and develop as well as be happy and healthy!

All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS and work towards the goals of the seven areas of EYFS - including childminders, preschools, nurseries and reception classes.

What are the EYFS Seven Areas of Learning and Development?

The EYFS is divided up into Seven Areas of Learning and Development, which are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language (C+L)
  • Physical Development (PD)
  • Literacy (L)
  • Mathematics (M)
  • Understanding the World (UTW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

We plan our curriculum to cover all of these areas, but also and equally important we personalise our curriculum to meet the needs of children specifically in our school.

  • EYFS Framework 2021
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
